Sewing Skills Class (ages 12 -16)
10 classes Classes begin Sept. 11, 2023   Mondays 3:00 - 4:15
Classes will be held in the St. Monica room at St. Augustine's
Instructor: Jane Cain  
Jane holds a Degree in Apparel Arts and has many years of 
experience in design and dress making with the Bridal shop.
$75.00 covers tuition.  Cost of supplies varies by project chosen (call 651-470-3958 for details) 
Possible projects are: a skirt, an apron, a purse, etc..
 A sewing machine will be provided but students need to bring the following:
  • A quality scissors
  • A package of stick pins
  • A friendly smile
  • A bunch of self-discipline
  • A very can-do attitude                                  
This class will combine class room explanations with hands-on examples of the following areas:
  • Basic sewing terminology
  • Choosing a project
  • Becoming familiar with the sewing machine
  • Cloth materials and their characteristics
  • Sewing and trimming
  • Depending upon student progress: button holes and zipper applications

                                                           Mechanical Skills Class (ages 12-16)
                                                                      10 classes    
                                   Each class lasts one hour and 15 minute
                                                            Mondays 3:00 - 4:15
             $100.00 covers tuition and supplies (must be paid in advance) 
                                        Classes begin Sept. 11, 2023
                                        Instructor: Colin Cain and Assistants

This class will combine class room explanations with hands-on examples of the following:
  • Basic Tools with tips on how to use and care for them.
  • Household appliance trouble shooting and repair. (washer/dryer, furnace, ceiling fan, etc.)
  • Electricity: How it's made.  How we manage it. Amps, Volts, Ohms.
  • Basic plumbing materials and how/when to use each of them.
  • Basic automotive care and repair.  (headlight replacement, oil change, tire rotation, etc.).
  • Fasteners (nuts, bolts, screws, rivets, washers, etc.).
  • Class project choices:
    • Functioning cap gun. (moving parts - precision)
    • Easy-fill bird feeder with glass sides. (angles & variety)
    • Gun rack (long gun) (satisfying & useful)
    • Hair dryer holder (easy  & useful)
    • Other ideas will be considered
